DERIC GAN

Deric Gan is a artisitc director with strong stage comprehensive ability. In addition to directing, screenwriting, music creation, and stage design. Deric Gan is also an outstanding director and acting teacher. He has so far written and directed nearly 50 stage plays and won numerous awards. He is the first Malaysian to receive a PhD in drama in China.
Deric Gan’s master thesis “Recognition of single-player drama and its rehearsal methods” and his doctoral thesis “Life Performance” received a very high artistic evaluation from the Central Academy of Drama, and included the thesis as “Excellent Thesis of the Central Academy of Drama”. He often goes abroad to watch dramas, participates in drama festivals, and has artistic exchanges with foreign artist troupes. He devoted himself to the application of drama and published academic articles: “Educational Drama-A New Attempt in Quality Education”, “London West End Drama ——Experience the win-win of art and commerce”, “The First Experience of Avignon Theatre Festival”, “Different Duo Drama”, etc.
In 2017, Deric Gan won the 5th Best Director and Best Drama of Malaysia Drama Awards for his “Richard III”. In 2018, Deric Gan’s “Peking Man” set a new record, swept eight awards, and became an award in the history of Malaysian theater. The most repertoire; the five-hour drama “The Ring of Nibelungen”, edited by Deric Gan, is the first epic theater in the history of Malaysian drama, and won him the seventh award of “Best Director” in Malaysia. Deric Gan is hailed as a rare talented director in Malaysia by the expert Sun Chunmei, the “mother of drama” in Malaysia. Deric Gan is one of Malaysia’s most important theater directors in the 21st century.

EASEE GAN

Easee Gan is currently a PhD student in the Performing Arts Department of the University of Malaya, specializing in Malaysian theatre development and art management. Former executive producer of Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Center. Produced and performed nearly 20 stage plays and art festivals in different languages and scales. The production works are highly acclaimed. In addition to awards, he also get opportunities for international exchanges and tours. Since 2010, he has been the production consultant of “Wonderful Tensions” Malaysia Perennial Performing Arts Festival. In 2011, I founded I love studio with the graduates of the Department of Performing Arts of the University of Malaysia and Emerald, to discuss the diverse characteristics of Malaysian theaters, communicate with foreign arts, and promote Malaysian culture and art. In 2012, he focused on the academic research on the development of Malaysian theater, and was invited by the Central Academy of Drama of China to participate in the academic research of the “Oriental Theater Chronology” of the Humanities and Social Sciences Research of the Ministry of Education of China and published the “History of Malaysian Theater Development”. In August of the same year, he was invited by the Chinese Nuo Opera Research Association to attend the International Academic Seminar on Nuo Culture in Linwu, Hunan, China and published “Ma Rong (Traditional Drama): A Study on the Ceremony of His Disappearance in Ritual Performances”. In 2013, under the promotion of the National Bureau of Culture and Arts, the Malaysian Drama Database was established. In November of the same year, he founded Muka Space with director Yan Yongqi. He graduated from an actor major and became a producer. He was shortlisted for Best Supporting Actor in the Ninth Drama Torch Award in 2010 with the Fujian drama “Big Head and Sweet Potato Head”.
