/Course Introduction
What is acting? What are the tricks to acting? What is theatrical thinking? What distinguishes film and television actors from stage actors? How can you become a professional actor? Dr. Yan Yongqi from the Central Academy of Drama in Beijing will share the essence of Stanislavski’s acting system in this course. Participants will comprehend the essence of acting through individual and group creative assignments, obtaining the key to unlock the doors of acting!
/Instructor Profile
Director Dr Deric Gan
Director, playwright, acting instructor, songwriter Artistic Director of MUKA Space (Kuala Lumpur) Doctoral advisor at New Era University College’s International Education Institute The first Malaysian to earn a doctoral degree in Drama and Traditional Chinese Opera in China Named one of the most influential directors in contemporary Chinese small theater after 40 years in 2022. Graduated in 2004 with a Master’s degree in Directing from the Central Academy of Drama, pursued a Ph.D. in Performance from the same institution in 2007. In 2008, served as the director for the sports exhibitions at the Beijing Olympics and Paralympics. In 2022, directed the opening ceremony of the Hangzhou Asian Games and Asian Para Games. Yan Yongqi is known for his comprehensive skills as a creative director, including directing, playwriting, music composition, and stage design. He is also an exceptional acting instructor. He has directed nearly fifty stage plays, earning numerous awards. Yan Yongqi is the first Malaysian to earn a doctoral degree in Drama in China.
Personal Awards:
Dr. Deric Gan received the Gold Award for Best Director at the 2nd China Drama Culture Awards in 2011 for “Love at First Sight” and “Seven-Year Itch.”
In 2013, he received the Best Director award at the 11th Malaysia Drama Award for “Forbidden Games of Youth.”
In 2015, he received the Best Director award at the 12th Malaysia Drama Award for “The Husband’s Wedding.”
In 2016, he received the Best Director award at the 13th BOH Cameronian Arts Awards for “The Dawn Here Are Quiet”
In 2017, he received the Best Director and Best Play awards at the 14th Malaysia Drama Award for “Richard III.”
In 2018, he won multiple awards, including Best Director, at the 15th Malaysia Drama Award for “Peking Man.”
In 2019, he received the Best Director award at the 16th Malaysia Drama Award for “The Ring of Nibelung”
